Holbox has very picturesque streets, one of the things that catches your attention when you walk through the town of Holbox are the vibrant colors and much of that is due to the beautiful murals that adorn the houses and buildings of the island.
Here are a few that you should not miss:
Concha Acústica: This space is a stage located in the middle of Holbox’s central plaza and around it there are many more murals that will capture your attention.
Fisherman in front of the Amaite Hotel: Holbox is an island of fishermen, it is an island that was populated by pirates in times of the Spanish conquest, which remained to populate becoming fishermen. This is the reason why you will see not only this but several murals with this theme. Today, it is still inhabited by Holboxenas families who surely have fishermen ancestors or relatives.
Whale Shark Pier: The pier is one of the main places on the island to take pictures, as it will be one of the first things you will see when you get to know the island’s sea, and it is also where you can find the giant letters of Holbox.
Navel of the Moon: You will find this place if you decide to visit Punta Coco on foot. It is located on the shore of the beach a few meters before reaching the tip. The simplicity of this place along with the landscape of the mural that contains the text “navel of the moon” refers to the fact that Holbox Island is known this way, because in this place you can appreciate the full trajectory of the moon at night and if you can contain your sleep it is a spectacle you can not miss. However, if you can’t, you can still take a nice picture in this mural with a beautiful view of the sea.
Frida Khalo Corner: This mural is a recent addition to the island, however it is beginning to gain traction on Instagram. The protagonist as in several places on the island is Frida Kahlo, however they adapt the elements that accompany the protagonist to the context of the island, just as Frida does to tell a story in her original paintings.
